Forest Mill started small. A handful of stalls, a shared love of good, honest antiques and a belief that a proper antiques centre still has a place on the high street, even if that high street is really a converted mill in Rossendale.
Russell, who runs Forest Mill, got his start as a teenage porter in an auction house. That’s where the eye comes from: years spent watching what sells, what doesn’t, and why. Since then he’s spent a fair amount of time on the road, visiting auction houses, antique centres and art sales up and down the country, picking up the kind of knowledge you can’t get any other way.
What began as a small operation has grown quickly into one of the larger antiques centres in the area, now home to around thirty independent dealers, each running their own stall and sourcing their own stock. That’s deliberate. A centre built around one buyer’s taste only ever appeals to people who share it. Forest Mill works because every dealer brings something different: furniture, fine art, silver, clocks, militaria, mid-century pieces, and plenty of things that don’t fit neatly into a category at all.
The idea has always been simple. Genuine antiques and interesting objects, at a range of prices, in a place people actually enjoy spending an afternoon. No pressure, no hard sell, just room after room of things with a story behind them.
